ABMP | Associated Bodywork and Massage Professional

The Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals organization (ABMP) was founded in the 1980s. Since its beginnings, ABMP has evolved to be the largest organization of bodywork professionals in the United States, offering professional liability insurance and a code of ethics to over 46,000 massage therapists and other modalities. In recent years, due to its size, ABMP has evolved to a major stakeholder in the development of educational requirements for the professional practice of massage therapy.

Members of ABMP include a diverse array of massage, bodywork, somatic and esthetic (skin care) professionals. While "massage therapist" is the title most commonly used by ABMP members, others practice reflexology, neuromuscular and movement therapy, Shiatsu, Reiki, other energy work, or one or more of numerous other practice specialties.

 

To build and sustain a successful practice, massage therapists strive to fulfill a number of needs -- to keep abreast of new theory and practice ideas, to learn how to market their services, to build working relationships with professionals in allied fields. To protect their investment in training, ABMP offers massage therapists appropriate liability insurance protection.

ABMP's core reason for being begins with an understanding and connection to those needs. Their membership has grown to over 57,000 ABMP members nationwide.
