The comprehensive Pediatric Massage Training for massage therapists and health care professionals provides educational and professional training to those who wish to enhance their skills. Through this training, participants learn to provide massage therapy for children with special health care needs, who are hospitalized or have been diagnosed with a terminal illness in hospice care.
Pediatric massage techniques for working with children with varied physical, developmental, and mental challenges will be demonstrated and practiced during hands-on in class sessions. The benefits and importance of individualized adaptations, including cultural considerations , for using massage therapy will be explained.
During this training, you are reminded to consider each unique child before, during and after every massage session. When working with children it is extremely important to understand methods of respectful approach. We must remember to meet each child at their level and respect their personal space. During this training, we will review respectful, mindful considerations and suggest how to introduce your touch in the correct manner for children. Unique communication skills to expand interaction and engage children in massage therapy are also learned.
At the completion of this training, you may be asked to provide pediatric massage therapy within a medical institution or other healthcare setting. In these situations, especially due to the vulnerability of children, we understand the great importance of professional boundaries, safety guidelines, considerations for working in medical settings including infection control and patient privacy. Each participant must fully understand their role in the health care team of the child prior to being asked to provide massage therapy in a health care setting.
This Pediatric Massage training session will also enable participants to examine and understand their role in the pediatric hospice team. We will discuss hospice philosophy, end of life issues, tools for coping with the psychological impact of death, dying or loss and how to work with children and families facing terminal illnesses.
Through a special pediatric massage course designed for The Heart Touch Project, Ms. Allen has trained numerous massage therapists, bodyworkers, nurses and other healthcare professionals who have gone on to provide pediatric massage therapy at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, Mattel Children’s Hospital at UCLA, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and TrinityKids Care Hospice. She is delighted to offer this newly designed course, so that others may have the wonderful opportunity to provide massage therapy for children throughout the world community.

Any experienced professional will tell you that there is a world of difference between learning how to massage a child from a book or DVD, and knowing how to provide the best care to meet a child’s needs, however, there are few opportunities to learn the skills they really need from a working healthcare professional who has provided pediatric massage education throughout the world.
As a CPMT | Certified Pediatric Massage Therapist, you have the special opportunity to impact a child and their family for a lifetime.
